Because of the importance of this show, we've broken from our norm of just streaming the interview clips and decided to make the whole two-hour show available to hear. We've broken it up into two parts for your convenience. Enjoy!

Jimi Hendrix Tribute

In this exclusive one-hour special, we pay tribute to the legendary pedal steel guitarist BUDDY EMMONS. We'll listen to tracks from the new album, The Big E A Salute To Steel Guitarist Buddy Emmons, and interview STEVE FISHELL, who produced this epic release. In addition to being a record producer, Fishell is himself an accomplished steel player who for years has played with Emmylou Harris.

For The Big E, Fishell enlisted some of the world's finest steel players to perform songs and instrumentals that Emmons originally recorded or wrote. Emmons has retired from music and no longer plays pedal steel, but the group of steelers Fishell assembled have all been deeply influenced by Emmons' playing, as well as his pioneering contributions to the instrument's design.

In our exclusive interview, Fishell explains why Emmons is so important to pedal steel guitar and describes in detail the impact he has had on the development of the instrument.

We'll also hear tracks from The Big E throughout the program and listen to steel masters Doug Jernigan, Gary Carter, Randle Currie, Norm Hamlet, Buck Reid, and Dan Dugmore pay musical homage to Emmons. We'll hear songs featuring Raul Malo, Emmylou Harris, Duane Eddy, and Rodney Crowell, as well as a classic Judy Collins song from 1968 that introduced Emmons to a generation of fans from outside country music. And as a special treat, we'll hear Emmons play a haunting 7-minute arrangement of Canon In D Major by Johann Pachelbel.

If you love pedal steel and want to know more about the instrument's history, please join us for this very special edition of The Guitar Show!
