JOHNNY HILAND INTERVIEW
Johnny Hiland Interview
(Originally aired on June 27, 2013)
Nashville is known for having more incredible guitar players per square mile than any other city on the planet. One of the most ferocious chicken-pickers in this vibrant world of twang is Johnny Hiland. His fretwork leaves audiences slack-jawed ... his speed, dexterity, and string-bending chops put him in a class by himself. Hiland's ability to play pedal steel licks on the 6-string is legendary, and his command of honky tonk, bluegrass, rock, and blues is both inspiring and humbling.
In 2004, Steve Vai — someone who knows a thing or two about chops, tone, and virtuosic guitar playing — signed Hiland to his Favored Nations record label, and it wasn't long before Hiland released his self-titled debut solo album. His latest record, the aptly named All Fired Up, is the focus of this week's feature, and Hiland tells us how he wrote and recorded this collection of amazing instrumentals. We'll hear selections from All Fired Up throughout the feature.
