Guitarist, composer Jimmy Robinson began his career in rock bands in the 1960's. He went on to study classical guitar and composition at Loyola Music School and there formed the progrock/fusion band Woodenhead in 1975. The group toured The U.S. and Central America and recorded extensively.

Jimmy is a founding member of the New Orleans guitar collective Twangorama, and most recently The New Orleans Guitar Quartet with John Rankin, Phil deGruy and Cranston Clements.

Mr. Robinson has worked as a musician and composer in New Orleans for decades. He has been the natural choice to open concerts for Chick Corea, Bela Fleck And The Flecktones, Jeff Beck, Adrian Belew, John McLaughlin and The Mahavishnu Orchestra, The Dixie Dregs, The Steve Morse Band, Allen Holdsworth, Tuck And Patty, Hugh Masekela, Johnny Winter, Stevie Ray Vaughn, The Neville Brothers and others. He has toured the U.S., Europe, Canada and Central America.

Jimmy toured the U.S., Canada and Europe as guitarist for Dr. Hook & The Medicine Show.

He toured the U.S. and Canada as a member of Guitar Slim, Jr.'s band, and with New Orleans legendary singer Leigh "Li'l Queenie" Harris.

Jimmy’s two popular concert series “Seriously Twisted Guitar” and “Musicworks” have featured guest New Orleans musicians Theresa Andersson, Anders Osborne, Tommy Malone, Dave Malone, Steve Masakowski, Susan Cowsill, Toni Digradi, David Torkanowsky, Jim Singleton, Dash Rip Rock’s Bill Davis, Alex Mcmurray, and others.

He has played the New Orleans Jazz Festival over 25 times and has appeared at the National Theater in Guatemala City, The Public Theater in New York, The Cancun Jazz Festival, The INGUITAR Festival in Switzerland, Festival Internationale in Lafayette, The Folk Alliance International Conference, The Ferrara Buskers Fest in Italy, and made three appearances at the Progday festival in North Carolina.

Jimmy’s solo, acoustic releases feature original guitar instrumentals and vocal pieces as well.

His debut solo CD Vibrating Strings has received critical acclaim.

His 2nd CD, Guitarworks features guest performances by Susan Cowsill, Tommy Malone (Subdudes) Bonerama, Washboard Chaz and Beth Patterson.

Jimmy scored the film The Gift in 2006.
